The article CRUDE AWAKENING by Emma Davy is on the world’s oil supply and all of the countries with oil. The article said that the U.S. government estimated that there is about 2.6 trillion barrels left in the ground. There is also another 900 billion barrels that have not been discovered yet but will soon be discovered in rock. This rock called Marlstone has alot of oil but is very expensive and hard to extract because you must put it in a kiln and heat it at 900 degrees Fahrenheit! Geophysicist M. King Hubbert showed us the new concept of oil production peak. This fascinating concept shows that oil production from any oil field rises to its peak and declines just as quickly. This means that once half the oil has been pumped out, the rest of the oil becomes harder and alot more expensive to get. Surprisingly, this geophysicist said that the oil in the U.S. fields would peak around 1970 and it did.

Did you know there are two groups of oil suppliers, the OPEC and the non-OPEC group? The OPEC group contains Algeria, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Quatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela. This group contains 65% of the worlds oil supply. Also, some non OPEC countries are the Gulf of Mexico, the North Sea, Norway, Russia, and the United States. Amazingly, oil contains 40% of the worlds energy and is used in many things especially in transportation. An amazing fact, is that the United States is 4% of the earth’s population but yet they still use 25% of the worlds oil supply. A few ways to avoid using so much oil would be to use electric cars, and to use the most efficient lighting and heating. After reading this article, I will bet that you will start to think about some changes you can make in your life so the oil supplies will hopefully last longer.

Today in Math (12-14-06) we got to vote on what foods we wanted for when we go on our field trip to Channel 3 Country kids Camp. After we added up all the votes we are going to be having tacos for lunch and a Turkey dinner. Next, we finised and checked a math worksheet. Thirdly, we started a worksheet called Fabulous Formulas. Lastly, our homework was to play our best at the band concert. Now you know about our spectacular math class!

If I could go anywhere in the world for free I would go to Paradise Island, Bahamas. I would go here because they have such a warm climate and an amazing environment. I got influenced to go here because my Mom went there and brought back awesome pictures and souvenirs. I would also stay at the Atlantis Hotel and Resort because they have so many water slides and a great view over the Ocean. One of the water slides drops straight down and you float through a tunnel which is inside of a huge aquarium so you are surrounded by Sharks and other sea creatures. Now you know about Paradise Island Bahamas and I bet you can’t wait to go there yourself.
